Somehow, just somehow, I think Kitty might take exception to the idea of
electrical operation.
After all, she has all the best kitchen appliances and gadgets wrapped up in one -- me...
When Kitty is hungry she simply "says so" and then I go get her what she wants...
Reliable as all get out... It's a great system... Works just fine...
God bless America...

Oh, you've heard of lap-dogs -- in general I think they are pathetic... But maybe you haven't heard of a lap-cat -- that's what Kitty is, and pathetic or not
it's what I have, so I've had to make the best of it... Well, Kitty thinks my lap is the best chair around -- right now she's taking a break and is napping on
our couch, but normally she is right here on my lap -- keeping an eye on everything that goes on...
Kitty apparently spends so much time on my lap that generally I smell just like her...
When dogs get a sniff of me they somehow think I am just one funny looking cat...
They are always VERY interested in the way I smell... I always have to explain to their owners that their dogs are smelling my cat, lest they assume
I haven't bathed recently or stepped in something... Like I mentioned last week -- "what a life"...

"Hold still Kitty, I'm trying to take your picture"...
Oh yeah, like a verbal instruction -- not related to food -- is going to work...
Assuming she is awake, Kitty is a busy cat. Really... There's so much to attend to, I guess, when you have so much hair...
And then there's a dinner request to be made -- a hollow look usually does the job...
But of course, her ultimate goal is to be right here with me -- I've got a lap, and Kitty knows what laps are for... What a life...

The opportunity for Kitty to sit down for a
portrait
doesn't present itself frequently enough...
Kitty's always busy with her opera lessons and volunteer work, and me -- well, lets just say that I keep really busy shoveling snow and de-icing my California sidewalk...
But the truth be told -- Kitty and I are incurable pathological liars. It's where unchecked pessimism goes -- it's a logical progression...
Eventually Kitty will go on to make headlines on Broadway while doing even more wonderful volunteer work for society --
but as for Kitty's dad -- well I'll just keep shoveling snow and de-icing my California sidewalk...

It's a

It's a little ritual Kitty and I go through -- usually first thing when we wake up -- Don gets a kiss on the nose...
Sometimes Don has to ask for the kiss, and other times it is totally gratuitous...
Okay, okay, it's more of a lick than a kiss... And it's sloppy and weird, but after all is said and done
Kitty and I are best of buddies... Believe it or not...

Getting a photo of Kitty isn't easy -- when she is ready my camera generally isn't, and vice-versa... But everything fell into place yesterday -- my camera was ready and Kitty was enjoying some time outdoors -- the perfect combo...

Winter has arrived suddenly at Kittyland and already a
pattern
of boredom is giving us a small dose of cabin-fever.
Of course, we've already gotten out the board games, and I suppose we'll gravitate towards the zigsaw-puzzles

Kitty is quite a bit larger than any
teacup poodle,
but she too has certain privileges...
A lot of Kitty's privileged life centers around food, and the rest of her entitlement is concerned with maximum rest and relaxation...
That's all Kitty really needs to be concerned with... Besides love, it's about all she understands...

The other day while out at Roy's Redwoods a bobcat crossed my trail -- it was carrying a
rodent of some kind and was looking for a quiet place to settle down for a juicy and warm meal...
Of course I had to tell Kitty all about the experience when I got home, but I resisted the temptation to tell Kitty,
once again, that some animals in this world have to go out and hunt down their food...
Kitty is getting up there in age and (((thankfully))) she hasn't caught a mouse or a bird in the past few years, but she used to be
quite the hunter... She would wait for hours at the base of our retaining wall and then make a tall leap if a bird happened to land
in the danger zone...
I was never able to break Kitty of the habit of bringing her kill inside the house, but fortunately she would always take her trophies
into the bathroom, where she would make one heck of a mess -- feathers and guts and blood everywhere -- but with the linoleum floor the mess
was fairly easy to clean up...
These days I love to show Kitty the birds playing uncautiously outdoors... And she seems interested, but not interested enough
to chase after them or plan covert attacks... Maybe I should get her a camera with a telephoto lens so she could take pictures...

Early Sunday mornings is a great time to go spooking around San Francisco's Chinatown -- they're a bit rare but a guy never knows exactly when or
where he is going to run into a Chinese cat...
Oh, my father used to tell this to me, so I've undoubtedly told Kitty the story about the starving cats in China and how
lucky she is to have me round up her grub... I think she definitely understands... That's why I get a kiss on the
nose in the morning -- this morning I got two...

It would be highly inaccurate to call Kitty a
quiet type of cat. Ever since I taught her how to talk it has been nothing but
nonstop chatter...
Need a testimonial on her food? ask Kitty... Need a good-afternoon greeting? just pass by and Kitty will talk your leg off...
But Kitty talks loudest when she isn't making a sound at all... Oh, you know, it's those eyes -- as sharp as her claws,
and just as deadly.

Hardly Strictly
Bluegrass Festival -- there was no shortage of dogs with their masters -- one and all were definitely enjoying the picking and singing.
But then I spotted what was probably the only cat in attendance, and she was a true beauty...
But I'm afraid that Kitty never gets to go anywhere -- I'm way too afraid I would lose her...
Nor do I think she would enjoy going to new places and experiencing new things -- she is SO shy and a bit skiddish around
strangers... Yes, Kitty, you stay home and guard the home-front -- I'll be back soon, but I'll miss you, 'fer sure...

Kitty's buddy, I think his name is

wanted to know why we had no edition of KittyBLOG last week...
Well, Alvin, it's my fault I suppose, although I'm going to try my best to blame it on Kitty...
Last week I was getting all set to "do" KittyBLOG when Kitty decided not only to walk across my keyboard but also to
sit on my mouse... That delay caused another delay, and another, and another -- so here we are today...
Where's Kitty? On my lap as usual -- and right now she is having a rather wild dream, complete with snorts and snurts

Well, yes, I suppose "cats and danger"
could be a new group of gangsters -- I found their calling card
scratched into the patina of Platform Bridge, out in west Marin County...
I keep a pretty good eye on Kitty and she stays pretty close to home, so I doubt if she would be inclined to

Recently Kitty and I got a membership to Costco so the other day I came home with a case of
Friskies,
Kitty's favorite brand of cat food...
And I realize there might be higher quality and more sustainably produced cat foods on the
market, but this is a brand she seems to enjoy, no matter what flavor or style I pick out...
So there you go, Kitty, 48 cans -- er, 44 and 1/2 cans now of your favorite stuff. And since I have no clue what Kitty's actual birthday is (((although I
believe most cats are born in Spring))) we've decided to celebrate our birthdays together -- this is my 63rd and as close as I can narrow it down this would be Kitty's
14th...
Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!, but for a 14 year old cat I think she is remarkably preserved -- wish I could say the same...

Sorry, dog,
Kitty isn't home...
Actually folks, Kitty was here sawing logs at KittyLAND early yesterday morning while I was down at Gate Five in Sausalito...
Gate Five is the original hippy houseboat community here in Marin County (California), and photo opportunities abound,
which probably explains why I was there.
I managed to get several shots but eventually this damn dog started barking at me -- I guess with my camera I was acting
even stranger and quirkier than the aging hippy residents of Gate Five...   Oh, it's a long story...
So, like I mentioned, this damn dog started barking at me and I realized that he wasn't going to stop barking, and if I
didn't make my exit this damn dog was going to wake a bunch of people up. The aging hippy crowd does not like to be
woken up on a Saturday morning by some dip and his zoom lens...
Right now Kitty and I hate dogs!

Locke, California is a historic Chinese village in the Sacramento Delta, and on Friday I got to travel there
on assignment for the photo-blog I produce; AphotoAday...
While spooking around the old buildings I kept coming across cats -- a genuine plethora of cats -- some who wanted nothing to do with me,
and others who were anxious for a bit of attention...
And of course I had to tell Kitty all about it when I got home -- although I'm pretty sure she doesn't really approve of me
being chummy with
other cats... I told her all about this particular kitten in the window of a Chinese medicine shop,
and I would have liked to tell her all about her spitting-image; a black and white cat that looked quite similar to Kitty,
but unfortunately the "tuxedo cat" kept her distance...
Oh, I suppose I could kept silent and not have told Kitty what I had been up to, but I think honesty is important in a
relationship... If Kitty could talk she would probably advise me that restraint is also important...
Sorry, Kitty... I'll try to watch it next time...

Kitty and I have a
dog,
-- oh, we don't really HAVE a dog -- but it's the big Woof-Woof that lives farther up in the canyon...
ANYTHING that moves in that area gets barked at... The canyon is perfectly shaped so all the barking gets
amplified and funneled down towards KittyLAND...
And then there is the little Yapper Poodle that has been taking lessons from the big Woof-Woof... If it's outdoors it is going to Yap -- that
is just what it DOES... It belongs to a lady I know from years past, so I am always relegated to giving her a soft wave as I pass, but in reality
I'd actually like to register a few complaints...
Thankfully, Kitty seems unbothered and rocks and rolls with it all... After all, Kitty knows all about goofy dogs -- she's got the
goofiest one of all sitting right here... Woof Woof...

Oh gosh, it's not like I actually FORGOT to do KittyBLOG on Sunday as usual, it's just that I was super busy and
assumed Kitty would pitch in and take up some of the slack...
But of course not! Rather than contribute to the literary (((???))) effort around here, she
would rather dream of
cat tails,
I suppose...
Maybe I could try to persuade Kitty to help by using logic and reason -- after all, she has an advertiser now (((check the left column))) and for the next several months she has obligations... A bit of a responsibility but she is now
able to pretty much pay for her own grub... Some of the stuff she eats looks pretty good...

The other day someone asked me how old Kitty was and although it's only an estimate I'd guess she is pushing about 14 now.
But ask Kitty how old I am and she would probably say about
four...
And sometimes I wonder what life would be without Kitty... Well, for one thing, we'd have a lot less fleas around here,
but there would be no place to call KittyLand... There wouldn't be anyone to greet me when I arrive home, and who else in the heck would have the
nerve to wake me up with kisses at 4:30 in the AM?
Sometimes I have to remind her who is the boss -- oh, who am I kidding... You probably know what I'm talking about...
Dogs have owners -- cats have staff... Life goes on...

I would have written KittyBLOG a bit earlier today -- but I, minus Kitty, took a little trip over the hills out to the semi-secret coastal
town of Bolinas... It was the annual 4th of July tug-of-war between the community of Stinson Beach and all the old hippies who live on the other
side of the inlet to Bolinas Lagoon. We also had live music and a rather unorthodox parade... Believe me, it is like no other...
There is no shortage of
dogs
in Bolinas -- and most of them run free throughout the town as there really isn't any traffic or other hazards to speak of...
And of course, why leave Fido home? just about everybody who visits brings their dogs along to the 4th of July celebration...
Anyway folks, I do wash them on a fairly regular basis, but my jeans must absolutely reek of the scent of that little four footed feline friend
of mine -- and just about every dog I got close to must have though I was one big and strange looking cat... Sniff, sniff, sniff...

With Kitty it's not always easy to determine if she is just deep in a
mood,
or if she is actually thinking about something...
Or maybe it's a bit more complex -- maybe she finds comfort in exploring her spot in the space-time-continuum.
E equals M x C squared, and all that jazz...
I ask her only simple questions -- like what planet she's from... Either she doesn't know or she isn't telling...

Well, two weeks ago I was telling you that Kitty was relaxing outdoors one day close to Mama Deer -- and that was true,
but it is only by the magic of Photoshop that I am able to bring this
Egret
in close proximity with Kitty.
It's only a thought, but if Kitty had the opportunity to spend some time with other creatures she might realize
what a pampered existence she has -- food from some mysterious source and a guy willing to hunt it down...
But explaining to Kitty that we've run out of corn-on-the-cob -- her favorite food if you didn't already know -- isn't an easy task...
First there's a look of disbelief, followed by more looks of disbelief... All day yesterday, nothing but looks of disbelief...

Well, Kitty doesn't know quite what to think but I am happy-as-a-clam that she has a new advertiser which is going pay enough to

And you know how cats are -- sometimes their
curiosity
can get them into trouble -- so I suggest that we all be prepared and seriously consider buying some Pet Insurance
for the unexpected...
Fortunately, so far as I can tell, Kitty has never injured herself or gotten sick so I have never had a reason to take her to the
vet, but I've heard stories about what it can cost when that happens...
A few years ago a buddy had to take his cat to the vet, and I made an off-the-wall comment that "I guess they don't have insurance

Kitty is still quite happy with her new spot on her new pillow, on the box, under the inversion table; in a quiet corner of my living room.
Used to be that Kitty would sleep by my feet (((and yet find a way to steal all of the covers))), but now she seems more comfortable on her very own new pillow... And I thought we made such good

But Thank God she still remembers me -- she came and said hello this morning -- but only after a bit of coaxing... luminous about the arrangement...

What, I ask you, do all four of these photos have in common?
ANSWER: Kitty has her eyes open in all four photos, that's what!
But don't get the wrong idea -- Kitty doesn't bother to keep her eyes open much --
now that I've given her a big square
pillow
in a cluttered corner of my walk-in closet.
And she loves the pillow -- now she finally has a little space of her own.
Actually, this all started last week when we had some of the most enormous thunder roll through KittyLAND --
Kitty was freaking out and found a relatively quiet and protected space in the closet She has been choosing to sleep on her pillow at night as well...
Um, there goes my girlfriend -- I just lost my sleeping-buddy to a pillow...

Recently the California Highway Department stopped by KittyLAND with their stopwatches and counting-clickers -- they did a traffic study and
determined that the Love in this area was moving way too fast... Also, the Love wasn't stopping for stop-signs, and
it was evident that nobody around here seems to know what a yellow light means -- no, they said, it isn't supposed to mean
"gun it and run it"...

When I'm not telling Kitty that she's so darn smart, or so incredibly funny, I'm usually telling her what a
pretty little head she has...
But seriously, I haven't a clue (((unless it's the food))) why Kitty likes to hang out with me. Heck -- I'm no prize,
and I have never really been able to draw the attention of ANY highly attractive female of my own species...
But, you know what they say:
Beauty is only Skin Deep...
So in love, sad as could be
'Cause a pretty face got the best of me.
Suddenly, you came into my life
And gave it meaning and pure delight.
Now, good looks, I've learned to do without.
'Cause now I know it's love that really counts.
'Cause I know that...
(Beauty's only skin deep, yeah, yeah, yeah.)
I know that...
Beauty's only skin deep, yes indeed.
Now you speak your words warm and sincere.
And let's me know that your love is near.
A pretty face you may not possess
But what I like about you is your tenderness.
A pretty face maybe some guys taste
But I'll take lovin' in it's place.
'Cause I know that...
(Beauty's only skin deep, yeah, yeah, yeah.)
And you know that...
Beauty's only skin deep, oh baby, oh yeah.
(Oh yeah, Oh yeah)
(Beauty's only skin deep, yeah, yeah, yeah.)
Ooo
(Beauty's only skin deep, oh yeah.)
Yes it is.
My friends ask, what do I see in you
But it goes deeper than the eye can view.
You have a pleasin' personality
And that's an ever lovin' rare quality.
Now show me a girl, a girl that's fine
And I'll choose the one with true lovin' every time.
I know that...
(Beauty's only skin deep, yeah, yeah, yeah)
And I believe that...
Beau- know that beauty's only skin deep.
So if you're lookin' for a lover. (Oh yeah)
Don't judge a book by it's cover. (Oh yeah)
She may be fine on the outside (Oh yeah)
But so untrue on the inside. (Oh yeah)
Ooo

Well folks, I'm sitting here with Kitty on my lap -- her head draped over my left arm -- she's trying her best to prevent me from typing and she is doing a really great job of it...
Maybe she doesn't want me writing about our
relationship... Maybe she doesn't want the word to leak out...
Maybe she doesn't want the word to spread that cats make the best little lovers... But they DO, but I suppose if
you are reading KittyBLOG I'm not telling you anything you don't already know... Happy New Year to you and y-o-u-r little lover...
