It seems as if she should know, so from time to time I check with Kitty about the prospects for peace.   She seems concerned and worried...

Stretchable ears  is a primary requirement for sorting sounds out for the appropriate response.   The sound of the refrigerator door opening will always prompt a "code-3" response, which means red lights and siren...

It's been on my mind for a long time, but today I did more thinking than usual about the precise point in our relationship that Kitty became master, and I became her slave.
She wears a  regal robe.

The secret is out...   Kitty is a little person in a cat suit...   no foolin'...

Kitty is larger than life...   She WILL be loved, and that is all that matters.

It is the dreaded Monday Morning, and Kitty is off to her mysterious job at her equally mysterious place of employment...   Oh, she has an official sounding title;  Coordinator of Spherical Resources,  but that doesn't tell me much about what she actually does...

I'll have to recind everything I said about Kitty having grown out of her days of hunting and killing, because I found a sparrow strewn across the bathroom floor when I got home yesterday.   I knew it wouldn't do any good to yell and scream at her, but I got even by bringing out the dreaded and ghastly vacuum cleaner.   She took a hike.   lip smacking good

Kitty makes it look easy, but being a cat is probably not the easiest thing in life to be...   Occasionally I give her a  "pat on the head"  for doing such a fine job...

I was warning Kitty not to get too creative with her resume, but the first line reads;   I am a cat, and  I am from another planet.

Kitty insists on having the proper amount of love  added to her food...   We start with a sprig of fresh love, chop it finely, and sprinkle it in.   Yum.

Kitty, the blog animal         August 12, 2008

Yes, pretty much, Kitty is an  abstract...   She spends her days abstractly snoozing in a far away place, and her nights abstractly sawing-logs with me on the couch...   She has stories to tell, but not in the normal way...   Yes, they are abstracts...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 11, 2008

And it's probably a good thing that Kitty doesn't mind staying home...
Unknown  flying objects  at ATT Park may be just a little too much excitement...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 10, 2008

Kitty leads a fairly sheltered life, but I think she must be aware of the foibles of man and his questionable quest for power and domination...   Over the years I've been trying to teach Kitty words like kibble, kitty food, and corn -- but I think we're going to start on a new one --  peace...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 9, 2008

I think Kitty enjoys the great  out of doors  just as much as any other creature, but she doesn't need to go far to find some warm afternoon sun, a gentle breeze, and some cover under the arms of our spreading juniper bush...   It's the perfect place to hide out and wait for that guy with the food to arrive back home...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 8, 2008

Temporarily suspending the fact that Kitty never really gets to go anyplace, she does enjoy an additional type of freedom that most  dogs  are sometimes denied -- she doesn't have to wear a collar or leash...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 7, 2008

Except for kind neighbors, old friends, peaceful deer, and the few other cats that she will tolerate, Kitty is  terrified  of anybody or anything that happens to fall-by Kittyland...   And that was certainly the case yesterday, starting with her all-time foe -- the vaccuum, followed by noisy construction workers next door, and ending with the cable-guy with all his mysterious tools and diagnostic equipment...   I guess there is only one visitor she hates more -- the wildly-insane and loud character that Roy's Sewer Service sends over whenever our drains need de-rooting...

But everything is back to normal now -- this promises to be a peaceful day...   We can only hope...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 6, 2008

Well, it's sad but true -- Kitty probably lost track of her  mom  after about eight or ten weeks when she was weaned...   The family who shared her early days probably decided they just couldn't keep all of those little black-and-white balls of fur...

Yes, Kitty ended up at our local humane society and she was lucky enough that the family who used to live in the house above me decided to adopt her...   And yes, I remember when they brought her home -- the little girl named her Whiskers, but over time that name transformed into a more generic name of Kitty...   Eventually the family upstairs moved on and couldn't take Kitty with them, so when asked if I would like to assume the responsibilities of taking care of Kitty -- and already fully aware of what a smart sweetie she was -- I chomped at the opportunity...   Exactly when that was has been obscured by time, but it's probably been about twelve years now, so I bet Kitty is in the range of fourteen years old now...

But no, we still don't know who her mom was, and we certainly don't know who her dad was...   But I think I've done a pretty good job filling in for both of them...   I've been able to teach Kitty a few tricks, and on a daily basis she reminds me what this tricky thing called love is all about...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 5, 2008

Kitty and I have a tribe of  deer  visit Kittyland on a regular basis...   They probably don't understand what a camera is either...   Or why that nutty human keeps pointing it at them...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 4, 2008

I haven't gotten a new  photo  for quite a while now -- I'm always going 90 miles an hour, and she is always busy holding down the couch...   The opportunity is rare...   But I managed to snag one yesterday...   I think she is beautiful...   I even gave her a little treatment using Photoshop...   Oh you probably know how females are -- they always want to look special and beautiful...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 3, 2008

Believe it or not, in all these years that Kitty has been with me I have never had a single occasion to take her to the vet...   Oh, maybe I'm supposed to take her in for a checkup from time to time, but I really see no need...   She's in here mid-teens now and does have a mild case of arthritis -- but so do I, so I sprinkle just a tiny dose of my glucosamine-chondroitin (a natural product) with her canned cat food -- she loves it because it's slightly sweet tasting...   It definitely helps her flexibility and makes her more willing to run around like a kitten again, instead of just wanting to lay around and sleep all day...

I've always believed that a major factor in health is love, and I've always made sure Kitty gets an extra dose of that...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 2, 2008

Where Kitty and I live isn't very fancy, but our love is just as colorful as this old San Francisco  Victorian...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 1, 2008

Oh you know how teenagers are -- cats or humans -- they've got to try all the latest fashion trends...   And there's no stopping her -- if she wants to try  yellow hair  for a while, I guess I should let her go ahead and do it...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 31, 2008

And while her Don is out climbing up and down riverbanks to get a glimpse of  wildflowers,  Kitty seems quite satisfied to stay home and simply dream about them...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 30, 2008

Over the past dozen or so years that Kitty has lived with me she has carefully molded and shaped me into a  sculpture  capable of serving her basic needs...   Fortunately she doesn't need much -- just food and love, but lots of it...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 29, 2008

Kitty managed to get me up about an hour earlier than normal this morning -- oh, she has her ways...   She wanted to go outside to poop -- and I really don't mind, because if she goes outside it means I don't have to clean her litter-box...

The second item on her agenda was, of course, to beg for food -- and who can resist a little offering of kibble to such a sweet cat...

The third thing was, naturally, was for her to go back to bed, leaving me sitting here to write her daily blog...

A few minutes later I heard her working on a hairball, and before I could throw her out the door she had up-chucked on one of my blankets...

Yup -- with Kitty around there's never a dull moment...

Here Kitty, have a  rose...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 28, 2008

Well, I didn't see anything on their  marquee  that might be suitable for cats, so I'm certainly not going to plop down good money for a movie that Kitty won't enjoy...

Oh you know, something like Andy Warhol's blockbuster "Sleep" in which he shows a man sleeping for eight hours...   What ever happened to really good movies like that???

Kitty, the blog animal         July 27, 2008

Kitty has two options -- she can either use the great outdoors as her bathroom,  or she can use the indoor facilities -- her litter box...   No confusing signs necessary...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 26, 2008

Well, obviously this guy is trying his best, but I wanted to tell him that it's not a very good way hook a cat...   You've got to wait patiently, and then if all the conditions are right, the cat will  hook  you...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 25, 2008

You know, every time I try to slip in some sort of political comment Kitty and I lose a chunk of our visitors, but I can't resist reminding everyone that we both tend to lean slightly towards the  left...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 24, 2008

Oh, I suppose  cat tails  were originally designed for shooing away flies, but for me -- it gives me something to pull, as well as a foolproof indicator of her relative happiness...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 23, 2008

And although your preacher-man might try to tell you that there are only two destinations in life -- heaven  and hell, I think there must be a third destination right here on earth -- cats...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 22, 2008

Ordinary life can sometimes be fairly drab, but within Kitty I see a multitude of bright and happy  colors...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 21, 2008

I've pretty much given up on trying to make Kitty a  movie star...   The field is pretty much dominated by dogs -- oh you know, Lassie, Rin Tin Tin, and all the others...   And I've had to warn Kitty about staying on the "high road" -- not stooping to the lowly carnal desires of the public...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 20, 2008

Well Kitty, regardless of modern day semantics, you are still my  love toy,  and allways will be...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 19, 2008

When I was spooking around at the  beach  a few days ago, I thought Kitty would enjoy the experience as much as I was, but alas, Kitty never gets to go anywhere...

A few years ago I was complaining to someone at work about the sad fact that Kitty never gets to go anywhere with me, and of course Debby, being a witty soul, suggested that I put her in a birdcage and take her along...   Very funny, Debby...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 18, 2008

I don't have the heart to tell her, but if Kitty really wants to join in and fly,  I think she is going to have to get some bigger ears...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 17, 2008

...with just a little bit of help from Chihuly,

love is an  abstract...     And Kitty is an artist...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 16, 2008

Well, Kitty doesn't need to walk around in five inch  high heels  to get free meals...   All she has to do is stick close to home, weight down the couch so it doesn't float away, and tell me that she loves me at least twenty or thirty times a day...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 15, 2008

Even though Kitty is black-and-white (tuxedo cat), she has brought a whole lot of  color  into my life...   Thank you Kitty...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 14, 2008

Yes Kitty, we will love each other  forever,  or at least as close as we can get to that goal...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 13, 2008

And although California is pretty much burnt to a crisp, about the only thing  burning  around here at Kittyland is our love...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 12, 2008

I'm not exactly which god or spirit to thank, but I'm rather grateful that when Kitty was born she didn't turn out to be a  sea lion...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 11, 2008

Charles Sheeler  has got to be one America's finest painters, but this particular painting of his seems to be missing a very important element...   A cat...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 10, 2008

I've always suspected that Kitty thinks in an abstract manner, so when I recently visited the  Chihuly  glass exhibit at the deYoung Museum in San Francisco I got a glimpse of what her world must look like...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 9, 2008

Explaining the concept of  work  seems to be beyond Kitty's comprehension, so I've decided to give her an illustrated lecture on the subject...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 8, 2008

I have a well deserved reputation as a hermit, but Kitty continues to teach me that no man is an  island...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 7, 2008

I knew Kitty wouldn't be very receptive to the idea, so I never signed her up for  swimming lessons...   Looks like these seven pelicans could use another member in their group so everybody would have a partner...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 6, 2008

I went back into the archives to find the evidence...   Yes, Kitty is a murderer...   Actually, I think she was just looking for something to play with, but if I could I would remind her that this isn't a very good way to make friends...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 5, 2008

Well, no, Kitty didn't arrive on earth from  distant planet...   And even though I can't pinpoint the exact date, I remember when the family living upstairs brought her home from the animal shelter...   That morning, with breathless anticipation, the little girl from upstirs, Jolie, knocked on my door to give me the exciting news -- they were going to adopt a cat...   Little Jolie was quite the organizer, so she had already telephoned the animal shelter to find out all the details of adoption and what they had available.   When Jolie told me that they had a black-and-white kitten, I stopped her in mid-sentence and told her that she should get that one -- I don't know what overcame me, but I somehow strongly knew that the "tuxedo" cat would be the best choice...

Whiskers, as she was formally known, immediately stole everybody's hearts -- including my own...   Eventually the family moved on, and I was awarded custody of Whiskers (interchangeably known as Kitty), and we have been together ever since...   It's been great!

Kitty, the blog animal         July 4, 2008

One of Kitty's jobs is to greet me when I get home -- that is, if she happens to be awake...   Yesterday I stopped to snag a  photograph...   It's been a while since I've gotten a new shot of her...   I guess I need to pay more attention to my priorities...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 3, 2008

Kitty doesn't have any idea what a cage is, nor for that matter -- which side is inside and which side is outside...   But yes, that's pretty good advice about minding your  fingers...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 2, 2008

In her old age Kitty is slowing down a bit, so these days we substitute the real thing for a wadded up piece of paper, but believe me -- Kitty used to be keenly interested in murdering mice, rats, birds, and the occasional lizard...   When I wasn't looking she would sneak them into the bathroom and tear them apart -- she could make quite a mess...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 1, 2008

I probably spend way too much time trying to figure out where Kitty's head is, but for right now I'm going to put her in the clouds...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 30, 2008

When someone says they're from San Francisco, it usually doesn't mean that they actually live within the city limits, but we all claim San Francisco as our own -- and that's our mayor,  Gavin Newsom...   Most everybody likes the mayor -- and he is seems to be doing the best job he can, given the complex set of problems that our City has.   I am going to assume he also likes cats, which is a big plus in my book...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 29, 2008

Of course, food comes first, but after that all Kitty needs is a  quiet place...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 28, 2008

Well, if you haven't heard, everybody is getting  married  in San Francisco...   It's a step in the right direction, but the new law has no provisions for guys like me and their cats...   Obviously an oversight...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 27, 2008

And while her words are usually soft, the  message  is strong...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 26, 2008

Kitty isn't too fond of swimming around in water, so I'm pretty sure she knows she isn't a  duck...   But there are times when she seems absolutely certain she is a little human being living inside a cat suit...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 25, 2008

When Kitty gets me up early, her intentions are rather  transparent...
It's a two step process -- first food, and then it's back to Snoozeland for a few more zzzz's...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 24, 2008

Kitty is still a bit fuzzy on the concept of a paycheck, but this big  building  is filled with cat owners, all working hard to provide kibble, corn, and canned cat food for their respective cats...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 23, 2008

Cats make the world a  happy  place...
Kitty takes the job very seriously...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 22, 2008

That's Kitty (at top-left) of course,  but I met  the other two cats  on my Saturday morning walk through San Francisco's Chinatown...   I've run across the handsome cat (at top-right) before -- it lives inside a restaurant and loves to catch the morning sun in the window...   The black-and-white cat (bottom) was just hanging out on the sidewalk -- I doubt if it has a home (or a big goofy guy like me to love), but it looked well fed...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 21, 2008

Leaves  absorb light...   Kitty absorbs love...
Really, it's pretty much the same thing...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 20, 2008

I don't know if I ever mentioned it, (?)  but Kitty really loves  corn... (!)

Kitty, the blog animal         June 19, 2008

Everybody is an art  critic...
Lets see -- eyes too widely spaced, wrong color, strange ears...
Generally speaking -- too much horse and not enough cat...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 18, 2008

I've never been able to pin-down the roots of Kitty's  ancestry...   Photoshop is fun, but perhaps I need a better scientific protocol...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 17, 2008

With Kitty there are no boundaries, no restraints...
She can go anyplace...   All she needs is a  quiet space...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 16, 2008

(lyrics by Linde)
Lord almighty, I feel my temperature rising Higher higher Its burning through to my soul Girl, girl, girl You gonna set me on fire My brain is flaming I dont know which way to go Your kisses lift me higher Like the sweet song of a choir You light my morning sky With burning love Ooh, ooh, ooh, I feel my temperature rising Help me, Im flaming I must be a hundred and nine Burning, burning, burning And nothing can cool me I just might turn into smoke But I feel fine Cause your kisses lift me higher Like a sweet song of a choir And you light my morning sky With burning love Its coming closer The flames are reaching my body Please wont you help me I feel like Im slipping away Its hard to breath And my chest is a-heaving Lord almighty, Im burning a hole where I lay Cause your kisses lift me higher Like the sweet song of a choir You light my morning sky With burning love With burning love Ah, ah, burning love Im just a hunk, a hunk of burning love Just a hunk, a hunk of burning love Just a hunk, a hunk of burning love Just a hunk, a hunk of burning love Just a hunk, a hunk of burning love Just a hunk, a hunk of burning  love...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 15, 2008

Kitty is a cool cat...
She has been taking up some of the slack recently for  Jimmy Hendrix...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 14, 2008

Kitty has been  lurking  with me in the beauty of the Lagunitas Creek...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 13, 2008

For Kitty and me, the romance part of our relationship has never cooled off...   I think of her about ten-thousand times a day, and I'm pretty sure she does the same...   Kitty goes with me,  e v e r y p l a c e . . .

Kitty, the blog animal         June 12, 2008

Yes, I suppose  eyecolor  is tremendously important...   But if Kitty is intending to get off the ground she might be forgetting a primary problem -- feathers fly much better than hair...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 11, 2008

Just hanging around at the beach will most likely earn a non-surfing  dog,  cat, or human the title of a hodad...   But surf's up, and the waves are gnarly...   Off the Richter and off the wall, here comes a pounder...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 10, 2008

I might be sticking my neck out on this one, but I'm going to guess that the multitude of petals on a  rose  make it the perfect symbol of love...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 9, 2008

Kitty appreciates my humble gifts of kibble, corn, and cat food -- but I thought I would spice-up her table this morning with a bit of  color...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 8, 2008

I'm hoping that Kitty will be cool with the idea of a new food in her diet...   Sorry Kitty, I thought I was buying  shredded-wheat...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 7, 2008

And while Kitty may still not have the whole puzzle put together, she does have a general  concept  of the plan...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 6, 2008

Leash???
Kitty got no leashes...
Kitty don't need no stinking leashes!!!

Kitty, the blog animal         June 5, 2008

The Frank Lloyd Wright designed Marin Civic Center has a beautiful and dramatic  golden  spire, however I'm not quite sure of it's significance or what it it supposed to represent.   So to take advantage of my ignorance, I'm going to tell Kitty it's a golden monument to the cats of our County...   And we have a lot of them...
Almost everybody living here is either a cat or a kitty...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 4, 2008

Should I ever do anything to skew Kitty's love, and should she ever decide to leave me, I suppose she might go join the  penguins  at the zoo...
My hope is that she won't like the water aspects of life as a penguin...   Warm and dry couches and laps are more Kitty's style...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 3, 2008

I should have dropped off a copy of Kitty's resume at San Francisco's Legion of Honor...   Kitty can do  motionless-and-still...   And When she gets her head in the right place she can even do stone...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 2, 2008

Kitty, being an animal, listens intently to my reminiscences about the glorious days of  flower-power  and letting it all hang-loose...

Kitty, the blog animal         June 1, 2008

I'm sure Kitty would love to be able to  fly,  but she would probably need to flap those little ears awfly fast to get off the ground...
