Well I'm afraid that Kitty got fired from her job down at the Hyde Stret Pier
(hanging off the bow of the Balcutha), so we've got to find her another way to pay for her breakfast, lunch, and dinner... Well, yesterday I happened to be walking near the corner of Geary and Stockton in downtown San Francisco and I spotted a gentleman with a
beautiful old cat
sitting on a soft towel with a bowl filled with several coins... I went over to the gentleman and gave him a dollar and asked if I could take a picure of his cat, and of course he said yes... As I was leaving I heard him say, "come on Buffy, lets go buy you a can of cat-food"... Knowing that I had helped him out with his cat's lunch gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling... So, almost immediately the lightbulb in my head lit up -- and I thought what a great opportunity a similar gig might be for Kitty... First, I think I'll need to teach her some "city street smarts", but other than that, I think Kitty has all the qualifications, and most certainly she has a lot of experience at begging...

Shortly after my previous neighbor granted me custody of Kitty, I asked a friend who was studying to become a veternarian about corn... She told me that corn has relatively little nutritional value, and probably more starch than Kitty really needs, but other than that -- it would pass right through Kitty's system, and that if Kitty enjoyed it, she saw no real harm in corn... Well, that was about 10 years ago, and there has never been a day that Kitty hasn't gotten her ration of corn... In fact, corn has become a tradition around here at Kittyland -- and without doubt, corn is Kitty's favorite food... It's not only her favorite -- but her
passion...
At this point, life without corn would be unthinkable... And there would be hell-to-pay if our supply was ever cut-off... My primary responsibility is to keep the supply coming without fail... Kitty depends on me...

Well, for Kitty, there are only
three choices...
Canned-cat-food, kibble, or corn-on-the-cob...
Yesterday, when I could no longer stand her little whimpers for something to eat, I decided to conduct a little experiment to determine which food she actually prefers...
So, I set out a row of all three of her favorite foods -- and then turned her loose...
She went straight for the corn... Well, I guessed that's the first one she was going to pick, but now we know for sure -- Kitty loves corn-on-the-cob best...

Well, finally I was able to get two new photos of Kitty...
I got home yesterday, and Kitty -- the official Kittyland "greeter" -- was right there to welcome me home... So, before we went inside I managed to catch two
poses...
Oh, she doesn't actually pose -- it's more that she is just "there"
-- waiting for me to get on with it, so we can get inside and fix her supper...
So we do -- Kitty has corn and a little bit of kibble,
and I have my usual carrots, celery, and cabbage... You see, I've been working with Kitty, trying my darndest at teaching her the difference between the
letters "c" and "k"... Oh, I doubt if she is ever going to catch on to the silly idiosyncracies of the English language, but I think it is important that I keep trying...

Kitty has a new job... It's hanging off the front-end of the SS Balcutha, docked at the Hyde Street Pier in San Francisco...
Normally, Kitty just hangs around the house and pulls in zero dollars, but now she actually has found an honest income... What she earns is more than enough to cover what we spend on corn, kibble, and cat food, but the only problem with this is that when I want to see her -- I have to pay $5.00 admission...

We skipped the light fandango
turned cartwheels 'cross the floor
I was feeling kinda seasick
but the crowd called out for more
The room was humming harder
as the ceiling flew away
When we called out for another drink
the waiter brought a tray...
And so it was that later
as the miller told his tale
that her face, at first just ghostly,
turned a whiter shade of pale...
She said, 'There is no reason
and the truth is plain to see.'
But I wandered through my playing cards
and would not let her be
one of sixteen vestal virgins
who were leaving for the coast
and although my eyes were open
they might have just as well've been closed...
A Whiter Shade of Pale, lyrics by Keith Reid, Procol Harum...

Oh, I've been trying to get some new photos of Kitty, but without much success...
If I go outside to play with her, all she wants me to do is pet her -- and won't stay far enough away for me to get a shot...
So, I dug around in the files and found this cartoon... Hope you get a chuckle out of it too... brainmap...

Oh, I've said it a couple times before, but that's probably not enough -- so here goes --
I love Kitty...
Yes I do... No doubt about it... And Kitty loves me too... Yes she does... No doubt about it...
Well, I got the idea to mention it again after reading the blog I enjoy --
Kelly's blog on Marin County hiking, at
http://kellyhiking.blogspot.com
To quote from Kelly's August 3 posting:
"Arty, Arty, I love my dog, there I've said it"... Oh how sweet...
If you're into hiking, be sure to stop by Kelly's blog -- she has taken on the awesome task of hiking all of Marin County's 500 miles of trails -- an absolutely awesome task...
And yes, she loves her dog, Arty -- just like I love my cat, Kitty...
Oh how sweet !

Oh, Kitty never goes anyplace -- but then, perhaps that is not completely true...
I know she dreams -- and by her leg-jerks I know that some of those dreams involve running -- probably chasing, or being chased -- but I think, just perhaps, some of her dreams take her
someplace else...

Oh, I don't remember who first said it, but I guess it is absolutely true -- that we are the product of our environments...

I've always just assumed that the reason Kitty doesn't talk is because she is simply unable...
But I am starting to think that the reason goes much deeper...
Quite possibly she might be guarding
important secrets...
And just quite possibly we humans cannot be trusted with those secrets...
I haven't a clue, and as I mentioned, she isn't talking...

Just like
ripples in a pond,
Kitty has the often forgotten, but wonderful ability to radiate peace, tranquility, love, and hope...
Come on, world...

Well, I don't know about you, but here at Kittyland we have unplugged the television and cancelled the newspapers... Of course, we know that this crap in the middle-east is still going on -- and getting worse by the moment -- but there seems very little we can do about it ourselves, except perhaps pray and wait for a
sunbeam of hope...
