I'm afraid that Kitty is a little less human  than I make her out to be...   After all, she seems to have no goals, no aspirations, nor people-like plans...   Yet obviously she has arrived.   Perhaps she could sell tickets...

Yeah Kitty, I know how boring it must be when you have no appreciation for the sport...   From Kitty's point of view, floating around in a pond must not look like much fun at all...     ribbit ... ...     ribbit ... ...

I've been pretending that I didn't know, because for some reason Kitty hasn't wanted me to know...   But a while back I decided to confirm my suspicions, so I set up a hidden camera to find out exactly what goes on around here while I am away...   Her secret is revealed...    She can fly!

If you remember reading Little Orphan Annie you probably (like me) have one-foot-in-the-grave, but the comic strip opened with Annie in an orphanage right out of Dickens.   Luckily, Annie met Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks; a self-made millionaire who introduced her to a life of ease and comfort.   Unfortunately, she and Warbucks were soon separated, and Annie had to make her own way in the world with her companion -- a large, nondescript dog named Sandy.   Daddy Warbucks occasionally resurfaced, but then again disappeared, so Annie bounced back and forth between rags and riches.   But the thing about Annie was that her spirit was unquenchable as she buckled down and did whatever it was that needed to be done; foiling any number of thugs, politicians, and other crooks along the way.   Curiously, Harold Gray, the strip's author, gave Annie only blank circles for eyes.   Many think this was because he wasn't a skilled artist, but I think he was trying to get us to  look more deeply  into her inner-being...

Realistically; even if we could dramatically increase her flapping speed, her ears just don't have enough surface area to achieve  lift off and flight.

Kitty is keenly interested in birds; not only as a possible dinner, but also as magnificent flying creatures.   I'm sure if Kitty was granted one wish it would be for a set of wings and a pilots license...    if Kitty could only fly

As our little scientist, Ms Kitty, might explain -- colors have the ability to travel through substances, and also to be  reflected...

Thanks for visiting - please tell a friend about Kitty BLOG...

          Kitty, the blog animal         January 5, 2006

Kitty seems to be shifting gears in her scientific persuits...   If I am interpreting this correctly, she seems to be into  "couch discovery"  mode.

          Kitty, the blog animal         January 4, 2006

In addition to weed green, Kitty seems to coordinate well with a soothing background of olive green...  "green discovery number three"...

          Kitty, the blog animal         January 3, 2006

If I thought she wouldn't get lost, I'd take Kitty to the seashore and we would look for seashells -- but instead, we are sticking closer to home...   Kitty has made  "green discovery number two"...
And what a fine discovery it is, Kitty...

          Kitty, the blog animal         January 2, 2006

Kitty's first green finding didn't take long:  "green discovery number one"

          Kitty, the blog animal         January 1, 2006

Kitty is starting off the new year by going into  green discovery mode...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 31, 2005

Here's Kitty,  birdwatching  amongst the Pickleweed on San Pablo Bay...   Pickleweed grows in salt marshes, often where no other plants survive.   The plant's high salt tolerance is accomodated by roots which can keep a lot of salt from entering the plant, plus a filtering system which pumps excess salt to storage cells (vacuoles) at the plant's tips.   When the vacuoles can't hold any more salt -- they break down, turning red and falling off -- leaving younger cells to take over pumping and storing salt.

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 30, 2005

I just noticed Kitty's eyes and I think she may have already been doing a little  early celebrating...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 29, 2005

Kitty was recently arrested and booked on charges of being way too cute...   When I bailed her out, they gave me a copies of her booking photos, both  front and side views...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 28, 2005

With all the rain we have been getting, the sun is only a memory, and it seems like years since we've had a nice day...   Kitty pretty much rotates between sleeping and eating, and she is pretty much oblivious to the soggy boredom...   This photo is from a million years ago...
Yep, the sun did once shine...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 27, 2005

It's probably my own fault for catering to her every whim, but our little chow-hound  has perfected her own version of the game of cherades...   Unmistakeably, nuzzling up to the refrigerator means feed me...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 26, 2005

I tried my best to get Kitty interested in her two new toys (a knotted-up shoelace and a toilet paper tube), but other than waking up a few times to stretch and beg for food, Kitty spent her entire Christmas day fast sawing logs on the couch...   I found this  slightly more wide awake  photo of her in the archives...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 25, 2005

Yesterday I took Kitty down to the mall to sit on Santa's lap.   She told him that all she needs is  Peace on Earth and Good Will Towards All...   Amen.

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 24, 2005

It's Christmas Eve and it's the proper time to bust-out the missletoe...   But as you might know, kissing a cat is problematic (hairy lips), so our equivalent is a kind word in her ear and a soft touch to her nose...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 23, 2005

There wasn't much competition, so Kitty has once again won the title of Kittyland's  "top tomato"...   And it might be prudent to keep this quiet, but yours truly managed to win the title of "big cheese" again this year...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 22, 2005

The weather-person is forecasting fair weather for Christmas, but right now it is  stormy weather...

...Don’t know why there’s no sun up in the sky
...Stormy weather
...Since my man and I ain’t together,
...Keeps rainin’ all the time

...Life is bare, gloom and mis’ry everywhere
...Stormy weather
...Just can’t get my poorself together,
...I’m weary all the time
...So weary all the time
...When he went away the blues walked in and met me.
...If he stays away old rockin’ chair will get me.

...All I do is pray the lord above will let me walk in the sun once more.
...Can’t go on, ev’ry thing I had is gone
...Stormy weather

...Since my man and I ain’t together,
...Keeps rainin’ all the time

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 21, 2005

This really-yucky wet weather we're having right now is going to bring a whole new and abundant crop of weeds for Kitty to chomp...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 20, 2005

Kitty may not know her left from her right, but she  is  a great dancer...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 19, 2005

Kitty's reputation preceeded her arrival, and way back then I already knew about her great love for corn-on-the-cob...   For Kitty, being served a little raw piece of corn was just a normal part of life...   Normal, but still an important event...   In fact, Kitty can get so enthusiastic about "corn-time" that she often cranks-up her special  spiral eyes  for the occasion...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 18, 2005

I had invisioned Kitty as an  Christmas ornament  hanging on our tree, but when Kitty saw the piece of wire I intended to use as a hook, she refused to go along with the plan...
Plan "B" is to invision her as a Christmas ball...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 17, 2005

How anything could be late this early on a quiet Saturday morning is a question to ponder, but our  full-size cat clock  says it is 7:13 a.m., and not a single word of KittyBLOG has been written...   Kitty is finally in attendance, but her eyes are closed and she is sawing logs -- obviously without a single thought to clutter up her pretty little head...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 16, 2005

It is just a  local adventure,  but it is an adventure, none-the-less...
...it could be just behind the next blade of grass...
...and nothing is going to go un-noticed...
...and nobody is going to get away with anything...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 15, 2005

In efforts to expand her horizon without actually going anywhere, I am thinking of giving Kitty a subscription to  National Geographic...
I'll probably need to turn the pages for her, but I've measured, and the size of her head is just about perfect...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 14, 2005

Right at the very tip-top of  Kitty's to-do list  is to eat food...

1

Eat food

2

Occupy Don's lap

3

Sleep all day

4

Beg for food

5

Hang out in weeds

6

Bounce pests

Kitty makes it look easy, but being a cat is probably not the easiest thing in life to be...   Occasionally I give her a  "pat on the head"  for doing such a fine job...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 12, 2005

The dreaded Monday morning is inevitable, but at least Kitty has the freedom to set whichever background color she wants...   Today she decided to go with a Red of 102, a Green of 51, and a Blue of 154...
Incidentally, this color, hexadecimally, is the equivalent of  "66339a".

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 11, 2005

Kitty only gets to travel with me in spirit, but I spotted this curious sign yesterday afternoon in the Marin Headlands, at the gate of the old Nike-Hercules missile launch station...   Actualy, they haven't used dogs as sentrys since the missiles were removed in 1974, but they've kept the sign in place none-the-less...   Here she is -- Kitty as a  sentry cat...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 10, 2005

I don't remember exactly when Kitty first decided to take over one of my kitchen cabinets  as her own personal little clubhouse,  but she most certainly did --  case closed...   end of story...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 9, 2005

All this year Kitty has been looking forward to playing Baby Jesus in the school play, but in their efforts to be politically-correct, the Board of Education has changed the theme to something about Santa Claus and his whacky elves...   Kitty is still included in the production, but now she has been reassigned to play the part of a  reindeer...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 8, 2005

Finally, sunny California has gotten just about as cold and nasty as the rest of the states, and Kitty probably has been  dreaming of nicer days...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 7, 2005

Here is our resident  weed expert  in discovery mode...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 6, 2005

Although Kitty and I belong to the Church of the Holey Doughnut, we borrow many of our values from Christianity...   So anyway, for our Christmas card this year we have decided on the neglected theme:
Peace on earth, Good will towards all...    Kitty did the calligraphy...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 5, 2005

It would be premature to say that Kitty has a new friend within her own species, but I've noticed that she has been allowing a pretty blue-eyed cat to walk across her territory...   This is certainly not typical behavior for our little  pestbouncer,  but it is definitely a step in the right direction...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 4, 2005

The little sign on my door reads  no solicitors,  and there she is -- our little pestbouncer at work enforcing the rule...   The other half of her job description is to make darn sure invited guests feed the parking meter...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 3, 2005

Trying to figure out what is going on inside Kitty's little head is still not an exact science...   Attaching wires to her is out of the question, and all I've been able to pick up with a wireless interface is static, so I have gone back to simply listening very closely and carefully...   I'll keep you posted...

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 2, 2005

Kitty and I got an e-mail yesterday from a fellow requesting a link to his memorial website for Scratchy-the-Cat, and I was happy to give him the link (at the bottom of the left column), but it started me thinking about the transient nature of life -- and how terribly sad I would be if Kitty ever died or just decided to "take a hike"...   Actually, I guess it would work both ways -- because really, being so dependent on me, I'm not sure what Kitty would do, or how she would cope, if I met with an early demise...
It reminded me that we should enjoy and appreciate every moment together, because it is impossible to know what fate will bring...   Amen.

          Kitty, the blog animal         December 1, 2005

It is a  rainy day -- I've got the morning off, and Kitty prefers not to count or bless weeds in the rain, so, we are stuck with eachother...   Left to her own devices, Kitty would do little more than beg for food for the next several hours -- but to avoid that, I'll need to keep her busy with games, puzzles, and if she is well behaved, I might even read her a story or two.

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 30, 2005

And there are still some people in this world, despite overwhelming evidence, who refuse to believe in the overwhelming  power of weeds...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 29, 2005

I think I mentioned previously that Kitty did not come with an owner's manual, so it took some trial-and-error to figure out her gear-shifting pattern...   Finding the location of her  horn-button  was much easier...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 28, 2005

Monday has arrived, and Kitty is once again hard at work doing whatever it is that a  weed inspector  does...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 27, 2005

It is Sunday -- the day that Kitty  sends and receives  in an upwardly direction...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 26, 2005

One look...   just one look into Kitty's eyes shows me she is already quite full of  holiday spirit...    Better let me do the driving, Kitty...

Thanks for visiting - please tell a friend about Kitty BLOG...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 25, 2005

I've sternly warned Kitty against making crank calls to the Butterball Turkey Hotline and bothering them with  silly turkey riddles:

Why did they let the turkey join the band?
Because he had the drumsticks.

Why did the police arrest the turkey?
They suspected it of fowl play.

What kind of music did the Pilgrims like?
Plymouth Rock

Why did the turkey cross the road?
It was the chicken's day off.

Why did the Indian chief wear so many feathers?
To keep his wigwam.

          Kitty, the blog animal         Happy Thanksgiving

Sometimes I forget that food is a prime component of Kitty's life...   And Kitty has standards -- fast-food and sudden-service just isn't her style...   Here she is, dining by  candlelight...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 23, 2005

chomp...   chomp...   chomp...   chomp...   chomp...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 22, 2005

And there are many times when Kitty is in a  quiet mood...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 21, 2005

Kitty enjoys weekends off from her weed job,  but the weekend-workers come in and never fail to leave the weeds in such a disasterous disarray that Kitty really dreads going into work on Monday morning...   And it might take her until Wednesday (and a lot of cussing), but eventually she will get all the weeds sorted out, standing tall, and plugged in properly...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 20, 2005

One of these days I am going to try to pin down Kitty's exact age, but I know she is over 10, but probably not yet over 12...   For the first two years of her life, Kitty was taken care of by some super cool people living upstairs, but you know how things happen -- people split and move on...
So... Kitty came to live downstairs here with me, and it's been pretty much one continuous wild party  since she arrived...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 19, 2005

Well...   like I was telling you, Kitty is just like a little person...
And she is definitely  my little friend...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 18, 2005

I don't think I would call her meek...
She is just very observant and quite careful...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 17, 2005

And in addition to being a goddess, Kitty is  just like a little person...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 16, 2005

Well, jeeezzzzz.... -- who would have thought there might be a conflict between Kitty's spiritual duties as Weed Goddess, and her occasional volunteer work as County Weed Inspector over at City Hall...   But some bureaucrat spotted the  conflict of interest  and raised a big stink, so I think if she must make a choice, Kitty will let City Hall take a flying-leap.

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 15, 2005

Ah, yes, sweet corn...   A gift from nature.   All is well.   All is complete...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 14, 2005

I think Kitty is struggling with figuring out whether  corn  is a weed or a vine...   I would like to assure her that it's a vine, but I know that's wrong without even Googling it, so I'm just going to try to avoid the subject, and Kitty can continue to go on thinking that corn is within her realm...   What she doesn't know won't matter...   But hopefully, our corn crop won't be stunted by uncredentialed blessings...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 13, 2005

A few days ago I mentioned that Kitty was a cat goddess, but I neglected to report that her exact title, which closely mirrors her duties, is goddess of all  weeds and vines...   Blessed be all weeds and vines...   Amen...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 12, 2005

I knew trying to sneak Kitty into the local movie theater under my jacket might be a mistake, but the disappointment came when Kitty and I found out that they no longer show  Mickey Mouse shorts  between features...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 11, 2005

This photo of Kitty was  so blue  that it almost went to the delete folder, but then I saw it had qualities worth salvaging...   I succeeded at pulling out a lot of blue from your face, Kitty, but I left you a lot of blue in the background, because I know you like a lot of blue in your backgrounds...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 10, 2005

Kitty enjoys all the rights and privileges of being of the human kind, however she also has a higher responsibility of being a  cat goddess...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 9, 2005

Here's 2;  count em,  2  photos of Kitty...   1  stretched  and  1  rolled...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 7, 2005

I've never been able to figure out the idiosyncrasies of how Kitty rotates, but Flash® uses time as an object  to calculate rotation.   If you have Flash® (and nothing better to do), you can read how to make your own Flash® analog clock over at:   http://flash7analogclock.blogspot.com

The following is an exciting sneak-peek at it's javascript (actionscript):

// START OF .AS
time=new Date(); // time object
seconds = time.getSeconds()
minutes = time.getMinutes()
hours = time.getHours()

hours = hours + (minutes/60);

seconds = seconds*6; // calculates seconds
minutes = minutes*6; // calculates minutes
hours = hours*30; // calculates hours

sec._rotation=seconds; // gives rotation
min._rotation=minutes; // gives rotation
hour._rotation=hours; // gives rotation
// END OF .AS

No, I didn't feed Kitty all of those pieces of corn at once...   I've just been too lazy to clean up after her...
Now, if you're brand-new to KittyBLOG you may not know that Kitty is exceptionally fond of raw corn-on-the-cob -- be it fresh from the field, or those yucky little thawed frozen cobbettes...
I often get some interesting reactions from people when I mention that my cat  really enjoys corn-on-the-cob...   Some people think it's really wierd, and other people think I'm just nuts, but it never fails to get some sort of reaction...
Actually, corn isn't really all that good of a food, because it really doesn't have much nutrition, and it is just starch -- and who the heck needs to eat a lot of starch? -- but Kitty just loves it, and when it comes down to it -- a day without corn would be unthinkable !!!

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 4, 2005

I'm certainly no expert on the subject, but if love could be visualized, I'm pretty sure it would demonstrate itself in the form of  radiating ripples...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 3, 2005

Ah yes, Kitty's window mounted  cat door...   From this vantage point Kitty can observe the world from both sides -- in and out -- without having to commit to either...   It's also a good way for her to keep her butt warm...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 2, 2005

Kitty is a durable cat, and I am exceedingly grateful that we have never had any reason whatsoever to visit the vet...   But that almost changed a few days ago when I noticed her favoring her  right-front leg,  but she was still able to walk on it, albeit gingerly, so I decided to wait and see if it got any better -- and it has, so I am extremely happy about that...

          Kitty, the blog animal         November 1, 2005

Well, that is the last time I go trick-or-treating with Kitty...   I tried to explain that the goal was to maximize our loot by knocking on as many doors as we could, but Kitty insisted in doing it her way by  lying in wait...
