Kitty makes the job look easy, but it is no simple job to figure out where all the vines go to, and to keep them all sorted out and in proper working order.   Good job, Kitty...     keeper of the vines

A frightful number of beings and creatures were ghoulishly be-deviled by Kitty yesterday.   Kitty really puts a lot of effort into her pranks.
It's hard work, but then, finally, it's  time for a break...

I don't know why Kitty has to be so dramatic, but every Monday morning, just as reality rears it's ugly head, Kitty goes into "theme mode".   When she arrives at work, I am told that her co-workers need a few minutes to figure out excatly who "that" is...   "Oh,  it's just Kitty".

When I dropped Kitty off at the courthouse for jury duty I tried to cheer her up by telling her that just because of her black-and-whiteness they would most likely immediately promote her from juror to judge.
here come da judge

Kitty, the blog animal         August 4, 2005

The first thing we do before we write KittyBLOG is to look at the previous day web-stats to check on the number of visitors, and with 65 homepage visits yesterday, Kitty has achieved another record-setting day.   Of course, when I try to tell her about her popularity all I get is a vacant stare, which is to be expected -- because she obviously has no understanding for the concept of fame or numbers...   If she did, she would probably give me a little object-lesson regarding the pitfalls of an unchecked ego...   O.K. Kitty, message received and understood...
One of my earliest memories as a child was a neighborhood boy trying to explain to me just how big the world was...   He and his family had just returned from a trip way across the country, and I remember that he tried his best to explain the long distance with his arms.   I distinctly remember wondering if I should believe him or not...   The concept of  vastness  must have been a bit intimidating for me at that age...
And so, today I'll probably need to mull-over Kitty's perception of concepts such as big, far, and many;  but a fair guess for big would be the difference in our size,  far would be the safe distance from the nasty dog next door, and many might be the number of food offerings she will probably be demanding throughout the day...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 3, 2005

And now that I have had a day to think about it, I think the reason Kitty and I have ended up together is to give an opportunity for me to absorb some of her  positivity...   She sets the perfect example -- never have I heard her utter a discouraging mew...   For Kitty, failure is not an option, but at the same time she is non-competitive...   She has exactly zero self-esteem issues, and she isn't caught up in ravenous consumerism...
And yes, she is patient with me...   She is very very patient with me...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 2, 2005

Life is full of surprises...   The unexpected is a mighty part of  existence.   Things happen which we have no control over...   Nor are we able to anticipate these things -- and we have no choice...   And even though I remember exactly the curcumstances of how Kitty and I ended up as a duo, I still struggle with the reason why...

Kitty, the blog animal         August 1, 2005

Gentle eyes  that see so much,
paws that have the quiet touch...
Purrs to signal "all is well",
and show more love than words could tell...
Graceful movements touched with pride,
a calming presence by our side...
A friendship that takes time to grow,
small wonder why we love them so...           < author unknown >

Kitty, the blog animal         July 31, 2005

It is impossible to escape...   Her  eyes  pierce right through all barriers.   She seems not to be fooled by illusions...   She seems to understand every nuance of my being...   Yet, thankfully, she is patient with me...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 30, 2005

Kittyland is usually a quiet place, but yesterday was an exception.   We had a roofing crew banging around next door, and the water company decided they needed to jackhammer a hole in the street...   What a din!   Fortunately, everything quieted down late in the day and Kitty was finally able to find a quiet place in the garden to get  horizontal...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 29, 2005

I have always thought Kitty's yen for corn-on-the-cob was because of her sweet tooth,  but a new scientific study indicates that cats do not have the ability to taste "sweets".   So, why does Kitty love corn so much?   I haven't a clue...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 28, 2005

Kitty isn't much of a morning person (er... cat), but in the  afternoon sun  she comes alive and begins to shine...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 27, 2005

I don't know exactly why, but Kitty has always been kind of  shy,  so I've tried everything I can do to bolster her confidence...   I always encourage her to keep her chin up, display a warm smile, and maintain eye contact.

Kitty, the blog animal         July 26, 2005

Realistically,  peace  might seem unachievable, but Kitty is still holding on to the sentiment...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 25, 2005

And while we two-legged creatures are all are busy with doing, it looks like Kitty is more concerned with the ins-and-outs of  simply being...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 24, 2005

Plain and simple, it is a state of  bliss...   Hare, Krishna...   Om...   burp...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 23, 2005

One of the major benefits of being the last one out of bed at Kittyland is getting a wake-up kiss on the nose from our resident  get-em-upper.

Kitty, the blog animal         July 22, 2005

For some reason Kitty seems to have a lot  more hair  than anything else.

Kitty, the blog animal         July 21, 2005

Kitty has been booked to give a big speech, and although I can't help her much with the words, I have been trying to give her some pointers about the finer points of presentation...   There are many non-verbal techniques, but the one I've suggested Kitty try is the  pregnant pause  -- stopping in the middle of a phrase and looking up, as if seeking Divine guidance...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 20, 2005

And of course, the urge to Photoshop® her ears into a  set of horns  is, pretty much, overwhelming...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 19, 2005

I think it is simply amazing how  Kitty  can do so much communicating without ever having to saying a word...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 18, 2005

I often think that Kitty would really enjoy surfing - but until then, she is a fully qualified  beach bum...   She has an aversion to water anyway...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 17, 2005

I'm not exactly sure what triggers the  huntress  within Kitty...
She doesn't seem to get as equally worked-up about vegetables...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 16, 2005

Kitty has been spayed - so she is free to play the field, but I have the impression that she is sort of the spinster type, and doesn't mix-it-up much with gentlemen cats...   But if she wanted to, I'm sure she would have absolutely no problem slaying all the local boy-cats with her feminine charms and  knock-em-dead  cuteness...   It's her secret weapon...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 15, 2005

When Kitty came to live with me she had a few handwritten instructions, but nothing even close to an owner's manual...   So, to figure out which buttons control what, we have had to resort to a tedious trial-and-error process...   Some buttons are easier to figure out than others...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 14, 2005

Being a basic-black-and-white kind of cat, Kitty can get away with the absorbtion of just about any color, but I've noticed that she seems to soak-up the  naturally occurring greens  best of all...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 13, 2005

Amongst Kitty's citations and awards is a simple branch of green leaves.   It comemorates the concepts and traditions of  being a hermit...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 12, 2005

I just can't locate one on Kitty, but I seem to remember that cats almost always come equipped with an adjustment knob to get them back into sharp focus  when they happen to go all blurry...   This is a problem...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 11, 2005

Kitty is usually the first one up-and-att-um, but yesterday morning was Sunday...   And a very fine thing for a cat to do on a Sunday is to skip church and zone-out behind a few more "z"s...     morning snooze...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 10, 2005

Kitty seems to be  right at home...   And she is happy in her jungle...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 9, 2005

I should tell Kitty that the Internet probably isn't the best place to get all of her medicial information, but I saw that she had been Googling the words "starvation" and "symptoms"...   and of course, this is all because we are seriously and very close to being out of kibble...   The general concensus is that we buckle-down and implement a completely new inventory-control system, because we are currently floating in a sea of Post-It Notes®, and we still haven't located the particular note that actually, indeed, says "kibble"...   And yes,  green eyes, at least around here, can indicate hunger, but usually the situation doesn't get so desperate or dire...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 8, 2005

Some day, in the persuit of science, I'm going to strap a whole bunch of copper electrodes to Kittys head...   Obviously I am going to need some sort of decoder, and there are some other engineering considerations to mull over, but if the experiment is a success, I will gain insight into the innerworkings of  the cat I call Kitty...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 7, 2005

After living for all of these years with a cat who is just like a little person, I've finally found we are like two peas in a pod...   But we do have our differences...   Kitty is a sunset kind of creature, but I'm a sunrise kind of guy...   She generally hangs up her hat about the same time I tie my shoelaces...   I let her go her way, and she usually lets me go mine...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 6, 2005

I don't know how it is at your supermarket, but at mine, not only do I get to crawl around at floor-level searching for canned cat food, I also have to recruit the aid of another shopper -- because I never have my reading glasses with me, and they print the labels so damn small that I don't know who they think has to read these things...

So, after all of that, I was left with the delicate task of pondering the true meaning of "chicken and tuna"...   The first step was to accept, on faith, that what I had been told, was an accurate reading of that which was actually printed on the label, but I digress...

But anyway...   Oh sure, it is probably easy enough to combine various amounts of chicken and tuna, and everything probably tastes just fine, until we hazard to ponder the combination...

This couldn't have come at a worse time...   Just when we thought we had recovered from a media frenzy about Jessica Simpson and her Chicken of the Sea dilemma, here it is, again, on the pet-food aisle...   It reads, in plain english;   "chicken and tuna"...

O.k., o.k., here's the story:   Back in 1914, when Chicken of the Sea was known by another name, they were the first to can 'light' tuna.   So consumers would know to expect a mild-flavored white fish — tasting similar to chicken — the company began selling it under the name Chicken of the Sea...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 5, 2005

Yup, all it takes is a moist paw and a little scratching...     spit-shine

Kitty, the blog animal         July 4, 2005

Kitty has mastered some words better than others...   She has got kib-ble memorized and mastered, but her verbalization of canned-cat-food, and even her rendition of the simple one-syllable word corn needs some work...   I was suggesting that she really needs to get better at some of this basic education stuff, because the State Board of Education use an unfair system whereby they give all the cats a basic speech test the very first day of school.   If a cat shows up at school with limited verbalization skills, that particular cat is probably going to get pigeon-holed into the "slow-group".   My responsibility is to get Kitty motivated enough to really want to be part of the "fast-group"... -- oh you know -- the group with all the interesting cats -- the cats with bright future prospects as writers, artists, and philosophers...   But this is going to take some work, because right now, all Kitty wants to do is  hang and chill...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 3, 2005

this obsession about corn on the cob...
The true story behind how Kitty got so interested in her daily ration of corn can be traced back to a lovely and spirited British woman named Sandra.   I feel it is important to tell you that Sandra is pronounced "Saundra", even though it isn't spelled that way...   Sandra had a great British accent and a spirit for adventure, and she spent a good amount of her free time spooking around the local trails with her two dogs; Jedda and Little Bear, plus a great Black Lab named Arrow from up the street.   Anyway, Sandra loved not only to feed people, but her animals as well.   When Kitty came to live with me at the age of about 3, she came with a handwritten list of veggies that Kitty liked.   I've since lost that list, but I do remember most of it -- including bell peppers, carrots, peas and beans...   At the top of the list was corn, of course...   Kitty also came with a four-ounce jar of Blue Green Algae, but that is a story for another time...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 2, 2005

It is fun to see the reaction when I tell people how much Kitty enjoys her consistent diet of  corn on the cob...   Usually they give me a look of disbelief, but I kid you not, because Kitty really loves corn...

Kitty, the blog animal         July 1, 2005

No weed is safe...   For Kitty, her world is one big  salad bowl...
