Oh my god, but I forgot last week's edition of KittyBLOG and hope I'm not in too much trouble...
Actually I knew I was in the process of forgetting about KittyBLOG, but circumstances just prevented it from happening.
Kitty understands, I suppose...
But here's a brand new photo of her -- she is debating whether to get out of bed
or not... That was 30 minutes ago and it hasn't happened yet...

Well, hope everybody is having a great Valentine's Day... Hope you got to snuggle with your partner this morning --
Kitty and I did, but that's nothing unusual...
Man and beast -- I sometimes take her unwavering love for granted -- one day of love turns into the next -- all the days run together -- this
affair has been going on so long and so fast that our love seems like a blur.

Kitty is still quite happy with her new spot on her new pillow, on the box, under the inversion table; in a quiet corner of my living room.
Used to be that Kitty would sleep by my feet (((and yet find a way to steal all of the covers))), but now she seems more comfortable on her very own new pillow... And I thought we made such good
partners...
But Thank God she still remembers me -- she came and said hello this morning -- but only after a bit of coaxing... But then it was like old times -- Kitty has a head that requires a lot of scratching... Kitty's new pillow didn't come with fingers... Kitty's Don still has a purpose in life, and that purpose is to be nice to Kitty... Amen...

Kitty has moved her own little spot out into the living room -- pillow and all... Well, I had to help her with the pillow -- oh I suppose she could have figured it out, but Kitty likes to have things done for her -- she is absolutely
luminous about the arrangement...

What, I ask you, do all four of these photos have in common?
ANSWER: Kitty has her eyes open in all four photos, that's what!
But don't get the wrong idea -- Kitty doesn't bother to keep her eyes open much --
now that I've given her a big square
pillow
in a cluttered corner of my walk-in closet.
And she loves the pillow -- now she finally has a little space of her own.
Actually, this all started last week when we had some of the most enormous thunder roll through KittyLAND --
Kitty was freaking out and found a relatively quiet and protected space in the closet She has been choosing to sleep on her pillow at night as well...
Um, there goes my girlfriend -- I just lost my sleeping-buddy to a pillow...

Recently the California Highway Department stopped by KittyLAND with their stopwatches and counting-clickers -- they did a traffic study and
determined that the Love in this area was moving way too fast... Also, the Love wasn't stopping for stop-signs, and
it was evident that nobody around here seems to know what a yellow light means -- no, they said, it isn't supposed to mean
"gun it and run it"...

When I'm not telling Kitty that she's so darn smart, or so incredibly funny, I'm usually telling her what a
pretty little head she has...
But seriously, I haven't a clue (((unless it's the food))) why Kitty likes to hang out with me. Heck -- I'm no prize,
and I have never really been able to draw the attention of ANY highly attractive female of my own species...
But, you know what they say:
Beauty is only Skin Deep...
So in love, sad as could be
'Cause a pretty face got the best of me.
Suddenly, you came into my life
And gave it meaning and pure delight.
Now, good looks, I've learned to do without.
'Cause now I know it's love that really counts.
'Cause I know that...
(Beauty's only skin deep, yeah, yeah, yeah.)
I know that...
Beauty's only skin deep, yes indeed.
Now you speak your words warm and sincere.
And let's me know that your love is near.
A pretty face you may not possess
But what I like about you is your tenderness.
A pretty face maybe some guys taste
But I'll take lovin' in it's place.
'Cause I know that...
(Beauty's only skin deep, yeah, yeah, yeah.)
And you know that...
Beauty's only skin deep, oh baby, oh yeah.
(Oh yeah, Oh yeah)
(Beauty's only skin deep, yeah, yeah, yeah.)
Ooo
(Beauty's only skin deep, oh yeah.)
Yes it is.
My friends ask, what do I see in you
But it goes deeper than the eye can view.
You have a pleasin' personality
And that's an ever lovin' rare quality.
Now show me a girl, a girl that's fine
And I'll choose the one with true lovin' every time.
I know that...
(Beauty's only skin deep, yeah, yeah, yeah)
And I believe that...
Beau- know that beauty's only skin deep.
So if you're lookin' for a lover. (Oh yeah)
Don't judge a book by it's cover. (Oh yeah)
She may be fine on the outside (Oh yeah)
But so untrue on the inside. (Oh yeah)
Ooo

Maybe she doesn't want the word to spread that cats make the best little lovers... But they DO, but I suppose if

No matter how many times I scold her and tell her not to, Kitty insists on walking across my keyboard, occasionally leaving
some surprising results... This was a recent 666 search-engine entry...
Either it is purely an accident -- or maybe she is trying to leave me a message about forgetting to write KittyBLOG like I forgot
last week... Really, I didn't think she kept up on these things, but darn it, I did forget about KittyBLOG last
Sunday... I'll take this as a warning... Kitty may seem laid-back, but she's firm -- and has sharp claws and deadly teeth...

In the dozen or so years that Kitty has been living with me I've always thought that we were perfect
soul mates... But until today I had never taken the quiz...
Now, I don't know how I was supposed to answer in order to come up with a perfect score, but, well, here goes:
When it comes to balancing and complementing each other
+ + + We are opposites. For example, I'm a guy is a morning person who's always up-and-at-'em, while she's more laid-back and like to sleep in late (or vise versa).
- - - - -The strengths and abilities I admire most about her are exactly what I need to develop more in myself.
- - - - -We bring out the best in each other sometimes, not always.
- - - - -We are so much alike that we barely ever argue about anything.
When we first met
- - - - -We didn't have a deep connection, and still kind of feel like strangers sometimes.
+ + + It was love at first sight. Something deep inside my soul was ignited.
- - - - -At least one of us knew right away we were meant for each other.
- - - - -There were no sparks at first, but now that I have gotten to know her, she's everything I could ask for in a cat.
Have you ever dreamed about your cat?
+ + + She's the leading character in most of my dreams.
- - - - -I dream about cats who are sexier than mine.
- - - - -I dream about an old flame more often than my new love interest.
- - - - -I swear I had dreams about her before we even met.
How did you meet?
- - - - -We met on an online dating site, and likely wouldn't have met any other way.
- - - - -We met at someone else's wedding, in church or temple, lived in the same building or on the same street.
+ + + A close friend or a family member introduced us because they had a hunch we'd be perfect together.
- - - - -We were high school or college sweethearts, met at work, or were thrown together in another meaningful way.
Did you ever get the feeling it was "meant to be"?
+ + + I definitely felt we were pushed together for a great purpose.
- - - - -There were more than enough signs to make me feel that our meeting was no accident.
- - - - -No harps or lightning bolts, just heart tugs and good times.
- - - - -I get that feeling certain times, like when I hear "our song" or we have a particularly romantic night together.
When we talked about our childhoods
- - - - -We had totally different childhoods.
- - - - -It was like we lived parallel lives uncanny how similar the family dramas were and how crystal clear it was that we could help each other resolve our pasts.
+ + + She conquered some of the same childhood issues that I am still struggling with or vise versa.
- - - - -I identified strongly with her feelings about her childhood even though my situation was a lot different.
When it comes to how we imagine our future together
- - - - -0ur talents blend together perfectly and we plan to contribute something meaningful to the world together.
+ + + It seems that we are together for a higher purpose, but we are still trying to figure out what it is.
- - - - -In general, we want the same things out of life, because we hold the same values.
- - - - -We want very different things out of life and it's unlikely we would enjoy working together.
Do you two feel in sync with one another?
- - - - -Neither of us seems to have a clue what the other wants or needs.
- - - - -Completely. It wouldn't shock me if she surprised me with the gift I was secretly wishing for or returned from the grocery store with the very thing I forgot to put on the list.
+ + + It's shocking how many times we finish each other's sentences.
- - - - -I only get a gut feeling when something is really bothering her.
Are there any signs or coincidences that you can't ignore?
- - - - -My dog or cat loved him even before I did.
- - - - -No signs to speak of.
- - - - -Our names are very similar, like Joe and Josey, or our car license plates, phones number or addresses are close.
+ + + We discovered our families already knew each other or there was someone else we knew in common who could have introduced us long before we met.
What outside input have you gotten about the two of you as a couple?
- - - - -An astrologer, palm or card reader told us we were meant for each other.
+ + + Everyone says we make a great couple.
- - - - -My friends like the way we look together, but that's about it.
- - - - -A friend or family member had an important dream about the two of us.
How perfect do you feel your cat is for you?
- - - - -There is a strong physical attraction, but she seems like he'd be more suited for someone else.
+ + + We were like best friends from the very beginning and I just know we will be friends for life.
- - - - -She caused me to discard my "wish list" of ideals and buckle down to love someone who isn't exactly perfect, but who seems perfect for me.
- - - - -She's everything my mom or dad would have asked for, but I am not sure she's the one for me.

Well folks, it's 4:22AM and I'm sitting here enjoying a bit of boiled cabbage and catchup with my little constant
companion... Kitty just wants a taste, and she won't touch it at all unless it has a little catchup on it...
Same old same old around here at Kittyland, except that it's been getting chilly...
Kitty has been enjoying the warmth of the swing-arm lamp -- it's her new favorite place -- but now she is on my lap helping me with punctuation... ... ...
Life goes on...

The weather has cooled off and Kitty has gone from basking in fields of flowers all day to staking out

around operations central here at Kittyland... She loves my warm desk lamp.
We have shed hair everywhere, and I've got this major lump of fur on my lap right now -- not only making typing as difficult as possible,
but giving a little nose-noise concert with her each and every exhale... I often tell her what a funny cat she is...

And how could I forget about Kitty -- she's always right here sleeping on my lap as usual, making typing as difficult as possible...

Well folks, last week on my normal early morning romp through Chinatown I discovered
another cat... A pretty all-black one with a very friendly disposition and a loud voice that

Beyond the basics, all Kitty really needs is a
quiet place...
I'm guessing that it must be within those quiet places that Kitty does most of her mental wanderings...

Yes, like two peas in a pod, Kitty and I are
inseparable...
Because of my bum-knee I had to keep Kitty off my lap all week -- and she was not happy about it, but she complied...

I changed
the location of Kitty's feeding station -- all I did was move it from one end of her "window-table" to the other...
I thought it would make great sense -- it'd be easier to keep the area clean if Kitty used my lowly telephone book as a placemat -- but Kitty
totally ignored the switcheroo...
Time passed, she was obviously hungry, but she still wasn't buying it... I thought the best thing was to just turn the arrangement back around...
Chalk up another point for Kitty if there's any more space...

As I'm sure I've mentioned a million times before -- Kitty can actually talk -- but she also uses other devices and methods of
communication... Oh, I'm just kidding about the semaphore bit in the photo -- Kitty has better ways of letting me know
what she wants.
The other day Kitty was outside and I heard her scratching at the door -- oh it's typical -- she has a perfectly good cat-door she can use but she sometimes prefers
that I get off my butt and go let her in... So I opened the door -- and normally she will just come in -- but she just sat there looking at me. I
invited her in and reassured that nothing scary was going on inside -- but she just sat there, so I said good-bye and closed the door... A minute later there
was another scratch at the door, and again she didn't want to come inside. When it happened a third time I finally figured it out -- Kitty wanted me to
come outside and spend some quality time with her... So I did, and she seemed happy as a clam... Silly cat...

At Kittyland there's plenty of opportunities to get into
trouble... There will be trouble if we run out of food, especially Kitty's favorite -- corn...
But Kitty's requirements go far beyond the bare essentials of food -- she has an insatiable need for love -- and if I don't take the time to stop and bestow vast quantities of it, there will be trouble... Of course I am just assuming that there will be trouble -- I've never stopped loving Kitty long enough to hazard the consequences...

Yes, Kitty
gets her own way... I had been trying all sorts of methods to keep Kitty off my printer,
but I finally figured out that I could just move the printer a little bit and Kitty could get around it without having to climb over it...
And so, that solves one problem, but now she is able to come over and walk on my keyboard... Never a dull moment at Kittyland...
But what I wanted to talk to you about is the fact that Kitty hasn't killed a bird for a few years now -- and that's definitely a
step in the right direction... She used to bring Sparrows into our bathroom and rip them to shreds -- oh what a mess...

For Kitty, life is simple... And happiness is achievable ...
All it takes is one spoon of canned kitty-food and she will be happy for a couple hours, and after that all it will take is a hand-full of kibble to keep her happy for another couple hours, and after that all it will take is about a one-and-one-half inch piece of raw corn-on-the-cob to keep her happy for another couple hours...
Of course, all of this can be punctuated by Kitty having to heave-up hair-balls -- not such a happy event for Kitty, or the janitor...

Lunch at Kittyland is a three course meal. Kibble, corn, and canned cat food. Kitty can't pronounce the words "canned cat" at all, so we just call it "kitty food"...
Kitty lets me know when it's time for
lunch... No problem there... God-forbid if I be out of corn...
-----------------------------------------
But Kitty has been a real pest this past week... She insists on trying to climb over my 13x19 printer and pushing it's buttons with reckless footwork... I wrote a message -- * Kitty *, Do Not Walk On My Printer! and posted it prominently where she tries to walk, but of course that didn't work.
I may have to use aluminum foil which she might not like to walk on. Or maybe I could switch into hardcore-training mode and place a balloon there and explode it when Kitty is contemplating being bad... We'll see how it goes... It's pretty hard to fool old Kitty...
Speaking of "old Kitty", Kitty is just about fourteen and a half now... For the longest time I've been trying to figure out her exact age, but I think I've got it pinned down to 14 and a half, and I've had her for about a dozen of those years... I think most kittens are born in the Spring, so I'm going to designate some day next Spring as her birthday (((stay tuned))) and that'll be her fifteenth... Sounds like it's time to plan a party!

Horses can't talk
very well, but Kitty can...
Oh, I know what you're thinking -- I must be one-blanket-short-of-a-full-saddle -- but it's absolutely true -- Kitty can talk!
When I got home this evening Kitty clearly and distinctly said the words "kitty food" -- all three syllables -- no foolin'... But it's really no big surprise -- she and I have been working on this for years now...
All I've ever heard a horse say is "hay"... That's an easy one... There's just no comparison...

And life goes on here at Kittyland...
Kitty is going through a phase where she wants to beg for her food -- or at least complain loudly that it isn't being served
quickly enough...
The height of flea-season has arrived and is now in full-swing...

for a cat who likes spend her afternoons laying out in the sun... Nice of her to send postcards...

Gentle people with flowers on their noses
All across the nation such a strange vibration
People in motion

People in motion people in motion

Kitty is absolutely delighted that
corn
is back in season, but we've had to start cooking it for her ahead of time --
she had been barfing up raw corn -- and that's no fun for anybody...
So, it's a whole new thing for Kitty -- she probably wonders if we are the only family on the planet who cooks
their ears of corn in the microwave...
And this business of allowing the corn to cool before chowing-down is definitely perplexing...
Oh, I'm sure she will soon catch on -- she's a smart cat, especially if it has anything to do with food...

If you are brand new to KittyBLOG you may not already know that Kitty absolutely loves
corn...
But there is a big problem -- it's not corn season yet, and it's going to be a while before the "local" crop comes in...
This time of year I usually give her half of a thawed frozen corn cobette, but she seems to be tired of the mushy texture
and frozen taste... Maybe I'll have to break-down and buy her some of that not-so-fresh-looking imported corn -- from God knows where -- that they try to sell for about eighty cents an ear... Expensive, but I think Kitty could use a treat... I'll let you know how she likes it...

But since I've already skipped two days, I got to thinking about switching to only publishing KittyBLOG

I'm busy as heck with some extra projects these days, and Kitty just lays around the house and sleeps, so she hasn't really been generating much news.

"Paul Revere's Ride" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow...
Listen my children and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-five;
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year.
He said to his friend, "If the British march
By land or sea from the town to-night,
Hang a lantern aloft in the belfry arch
Of the North Church tower as a signal light,--
One if by land, and two if by sea;
And I on the opposite shore will be,
Ready to ride and spread the alarm
Through every Middlesex village and farm,
For the country folk to be up and to arm."
Then he said "Good-night!" and with muffled oar
Silently rowed to the Charlestown shore,
Just as the moon rose over the bay,
Where swinging wide at her moorings lay
The Somerset, British man-of-war;
A phantom ship, with each mast and spar
Across the moon like a prison bar,
And a huge black hulk, that was magnified
By its own reflection in the tide.
Meanwhile, his friend through alley and street
Wanders and watches, with eager ears,
Till in the silence around him he hears
The muster of men at the barrack door,
The sound of arms, and the tramp of feet,
And the measured tread of the grenadiers,
Marching down to their boats on the shore.
Then he climbed the tower of the Old North Church,
By the wooden stairs, with stealthy tread,
To the belfry chamber overhead,
And startled the pigeons from their perch
On the sombre rafters, that round him made
Masses and moving shapes of shade,--
By the trembling ladder, steep and tall,
To the highest window in the wall,
Where he paused to listen and look down
A moment on the roofs of the town
And the moonlight flowing over all.
Beneath, in the churchyard, lay the dead,
In their night encampment on the hill,
Wrapped in silence so deep and still
That he could hear, like a sentinel's tread,
The watchful night-wind, as it went
Creeping along from tent to tent,
And seeming to whisper, "All is well!"
A moment only he feels the spell
Of the place and the hour, and the secret dread
Of the lonely belfry and the dead;
For suddenly all his thoughts are bent
On a shadowy something far away,
Where the river widens to meet the bay,--
A line of black that bends and floats
On the rising tide like a bridge of boats.
Meanwhile, impatient to mount and ride,
Booted and spurred, with a heavy stride
On the opposite shore walked Paul Revere.
Now he patted his horse's side,
Now he gazed at the landscape far and near,
Then, impetuous, stamped the earth,
And turned and tightened his saddle girth;
But mostly he watched with eager search
The belfry tower of the Old North Church,
As it rose above the graves on the hill,
Lonely and spectral and sombre and still.
And lo! as he looks, on the belfry's height
A glimmer, and then a gleam of light!
He springs to the saddle, the bridle he turns,
But lingers and gazes, till full on his sight
A second lamp in the belfry burns.
A hurry of hoofs in a village street,
A shape in the moonlight, a bulk in the dark,
And beneath, from the pebbles, in passing, a spark
Struck out by a steed flying fearless and fleet;
That was all! And yet, through the gloom and the light,
The fate of a nation was riding that night;
And the spark struck out by that steed, in his flight,
Kindled the land into flame with its heat.
He has left the village and mounted the steep,
And beneath him, tranquil and broad and deep,
Is the Mystic, meeting the ocean tides;
And under the alders that skirt its edge,
Now soft on the sand, now loud on the ledge,
Is heard the tramp of his steed as he rides.
It was twelve by the village clock
When he crossed the bridge into Medford town.
He heard the crowing of the cock,
And the barking of the farmer's dog,
And felt the damp of the river fog,
That rises after the sun goes down.
It was one by the village clock,
When he galloped into Lexington.
He saw the gilded weathercock
Swim in the moonlight as he passed,
And the meeting-house windows, black and bare,
Gaze at him with a spectral glare,
As if they already stood aghast
At the bloody work they would look upon.
It was two by the village clock,
When he came to the bridge in Concord town.
He heard the bleating of the flock,
And the twitter of birds among the trees,
And felt the breath of the morning breeze
Blowing over the meadow brown.
And one was safe and asleep in his bed
Who at the bridge would be first to fall,
Who that day would be lying dead,
Pierced by a British musket ball.
You know the rest. In the books you have read
How the British Regulars fired and fled,---
How the farmers gave them ball for ball,
>From behind each fence and farmyard wall,
Chasing the redcoats down the lane,
Then crossing the fields to emerge again
Under the trees at the turn of the road,
And only pausing to fire and load.
So through the night rode Paul Revere;
And so through the night went his cry of alarm
To every Middlesex village and farm,---
A cry of defiance, and not of fear,
A voice in the darkness, a knock at the door,
And a word that shall echo for evermore!
For, borne on the night-wind of the Past,
Through all our history, to the last,
In the hour of darkness and peril and need,
The people will waken and listen to hear
The hurrying hoof-beats of that steed,
And the midnight message of Paul Revere.

And I hope you, dear visitor, have someone to love you just as much as Kitty loves me...
It's nice, isn't it?

Look,
up in the sky --
Is it a bird? Is it a plane?

Nope, it's our new President flying into town...

I don't know what the weather is around your digs, but here in the San Francisco Bay Area we're still looking for our Winter...
Usually, by this time in January we would have already had a series of very wet storms to replenish our reservoirs, but this
year we have had mostly sunny weather, with temperatures of 70, and not a cloud in sight... It feels just like
Springtime...

I'm not quite sure who the guy with the beer-belly is (no, it isn't me), but there is absolutely no doubt who the overstuffed
black-and-white furry creature is -- my little
couch potato...

Well folks, I finally got a new shot of Kitty...
I had given Kitty her usual little unfrozen cobbette of corn and I was heading out the door when I realized that there might be a photo-opportunity
right there -- Kitty eating her all time favorite food
corn...

Well you would think that our litle
Ms. Intensity
would have reminded me that I had forgotten to write KittyBLOG this morning... After all, she has been right here helping me with other things...
E-gads -- it's 10:28AM, I'm late, I'm late, I'm late...
Maybe I'll buy Kitty a watch for her birthday so she can keep track of things...

Things change... For many years I thought I was a dog-person, but then Kitty came along and
revolutionized
my thoughts and feelings on the subject...

Oh, I suppose it might take a couple more million years, but I'm pretty sure that eventually Kitty's ears will evolve to a size large enough to support
flight...

I've known a few select people who tend to brighten-up a room when they enter, but I think Kitty prefers to work outdoors with
streaming sunlight...

Well, Kitty, I think you should thank your lucky-stars that "cat" doesn't taste better than
